When I became a mom, I always held my baby close.
I breastfeed and respond to every cry.
I was then shamed and told I’m doing everything wrong…
They said I’m going to “spoil” my baby.
Then I realized that the people telling new moms to ignore their instincts are the same people who raised a generation of very mentally ill adults…
So I held my baby closer.
I tuned out all the opinions.
Love, connection, closeness and constant responsiveness creates secure attachment and mental wellness.
To all the moms being shamed by family and strangers for attachment parenting, remind yourself this is your instincts guiding you.
No amount of connection and responsiveness can ever “spoil” a child.
Follow your instincts.
Hold your babies close.
With love, Carlie
